Learning Engagement: Life of an Executive Director
The goal of this critical conversation is to offer folx in the deaf anti-violence movement work a deeper understanding of the work of executive directors. Some people have personal goals to become an executive director themselves or are curious to learn more about what their executive director’s work looks like so that they have a deeper understanding of organizational operations. Throughout this learning engagement, we will touch on the following points:
The tangible tasks expected of executive directors and the strategies they utilize to accomplish such tasks.
How executive directors balance working with staff and a board of directors.
Ways in which executive directors work with their staff to achieve our collective vision of ending violence in the deaf community.
Day One
During this session, Deaf Action team member Liam Esposito leads a critical conversation with several deaf executive directors in anti-violence programs including Aracelia Aguilar (DeafHope), Najma Johnson (DAWN), Napal Tesfai (ADWAS), Aaron Gutkze (ThinkSelf), and Rose Larson (DWAVE) about their experience leading a non-profit serving deaf survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
Day Two
Watch a Critical Conversation between Executive Directors and board members about their experiences working together. Strategies for how to maximize organizational success of direct services for deaf survivors of domestic and sexual violence are shared.
