Reproductive Coercion as an Abusive Tactic

Reproductive coercion is a domestic and/or sexual violence tactic directly targeting reproductive rights and processes such as blocking access to medical services or forced unprotected sex. We know that the impact of reproductive coercion is severe, particularly for survivors with multiple marginalized identities. Deaf, DeafBlind, DeafDisabled, late deafened, hard of hearing (DDBDDLDHH), BIPOC, LGBTQIA2S and other survivors have limited access to reproductive information and care, yet Deaf advocates are not equipped to provide support. This is an area of advocacy that has not been addressed in our Deaf advocacy work.
